After spending too much money helping others pay their mortgages, we decided that it was time to make the jump into adulthood (no, we didn't get married) and buy a house. Buying a home in DC was quite an experience. We also found out a lot about what we were willing to give up and what we were not. In three months, we had put down four offers on four homes in various parts of DC. The Kearny Street home was our fifth and final offer.
To describe the house, it was sold to us as a five-bedroom, two bath home with a wrap-around porch, full basement and re
finished hardwood floors. It was built in 1910 and still has a lot of the original wood molding, but that also means that we have the old plumbing too. It has a fireplace, an attic (that's tall enough for me) and a small back porch. All and all, it's a very cute, large home.
When we bought the Kearny Street home, we had planned on updating the kitchen and bathrooms - two very good returns on investments. We just thought it needed some love. However, the more we lived in the home, the more we realized just how much we needed to put into the house to bring it up to date. So onward to the drawings.
After a year of living in the home and about 50 drafts of the design, we finally are at a place where we can start the remodeling process. Hopefully we'll be able to put the design up on this space.
Wish us luck!
